Establishment
The department of Marathi was established in the year of 1999. Now, it is one of the most outstanding departments in the faculty of Arts. It is associated with the faculties – Arts, Commerce and Science. The students from rural background are provided an opportunity to pursue higher studies in Marathi Language & Literature. The department of Marathi has been involved in the process of teaching, learning and evaluation since its establishment. It has been always determined to upgrade the level of quality education undertaking different curricular and co-curricular activities. The department makes tireless efforts for quality standards in the higher education. Apart from the regular teaching-learning, it also focuses on the value education. The Department of Marathi sensitizes students towards language and literature learning, thereby, nurturing skills to promote future professionals in the fields of education, research and publication.
Introduction:
Education through mother tongue is always effective. Therefore, Marathi being the native language of Maharashtra, it has immense importance in the educational, social, cultural, spiritual, political and economical tradition of Maharashtra. Marathi has been acknowledged as ‘Rajbhasha’(Royal Language) by the Govt. of India. In the present scenario, Competitive examinations are being conducted in Marathi. Though, Marathi is the regional language, it has ability to present Literature, Science and Technology, Trade & Commerce, Administration and Law. The Govt. of Maharashtra has made it as the compulsory subject at primary and secondary level schools.
Objectives of the Department
Marathi Department aims at promoting awareness among the students regarding Marathi literature. Marathi is taught as Second Language and Optional Language at under graduate programme. It is taught as a second language at the first and second year of the under graduate programmes in the faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce. It is taught as an optional subject at the three years degree programme in the faculty of Arts. (B.A.). The department aims at enabling the students.
- To acquire the language skills by knowing the principles of writing rules.
- To know the variety and utility of Marathi language.
- To study the translation and language of the translation.
- To study the specialties of the utility of the language according to its object and the structure
About Research:
Dr. Vijaykumar Shivdas Dhole, Head & Assistant Professor, and Dr. Namdev Bapurao Sodgir have been awarded Ph. D. Degrees by Swami Ramanad Teerth Marathwada University, Nanded. They are constantly publishing research papers in the national and international journals. Dr. Vijaykumar Dhole has been writing poetry and has recited his poems in Marathwada Sahitya Sammelans. Some of his poems have been published in edited books. Faculties in the Department of Marathi participate in the national and international level seminars and conferences.

The department of Marathi is striving hard for the overall development of the students. The following co-curricular activities are undertaken for the students.

- College has started YouTube Channel which is used for teaching-learning process during COVID 19 pandemic situation.
- The Department of Marathi has regularly uploaded recorded periods of the prescribed syllabus on college YouTube Channel.
- Online National Elocution Competition was organized on 3rd January, 2021 on the Birth Anniversary of Savitribai Phule, the first woman teacher of India.
