Establishment
The department of Pali was established in the year of 1999. Now, it is one of the most outstanding departments in the faculty of Arts. It is associated with the faculties – Arts, Commerce and Science. The students from rural background are provided an opportunity to pursue higher studies in Pali Language & Literature. The department of Pali has been involved in the process of teaching, learning and evaluation since its establishment. It has been always determined to upgrade the level of quality education undertaking different curricular and co-curricular activities. The department makes tireless efforts for quality standards in the higher education. Apart from the regular teaching-learning, it also focuses on the value education. The Department of Pali sensitizes students towards language and literature learning, thereby, nurturing skills to promote future professionals in the fields of education, research and publication.
Introduction:
A person who knows Pali is like a star. Pali is the language of light, humanity, knowledge, dedication and compassion. Buddhist scriptures are basically written in Pali language. Therefore, it is known as the language of love, mercy and compassion. The literature written in Pali is popularly known as Tripithika which preaches morality, compassion and humanity. In this world of globalization, there is a need of Buddhist philosophy. Hence, it is being adopted by people residing in different countries in the world. It is simple, lucid and euphonic language. Most of the languages existing in India are having basic words from Pali. It is the colloquial language of the natives of ancient India. It is one of the most ancient languages in the world. In the present scenario, it is spoken in different countries in the world such as Shri Lanka, Brahamadesh and Manmar etc. Presently, Pali is included in competitive examinations at state and national levels.
Objectives of the Department
Pali Department aims at promoting awareness among the students regarding Pali language and literature. Pali is taught as Second Language and Optional Language at under graduate programme. It is taught as a second language at the first and second year of the under graduate programmes in the faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce. It is taught as an optional subject at the three years degree programme in the faculty of Arts. (B.A.). The department aims at enabling the students.
- To acquire the language skills by knowing the principles of writing rules.
- To know the utility of Pali language.
- To study the translation and language of the translation.
About Research:
Mr. Bansode Gautam Sheshrao Head & Assistant Professor has been awarded M. Phil Degrees by RTMNU, Nagpur and perusing Ph. D. Degree from SRTMU, Nanded. He is constantly publishing research papers in the national and international journals. Faculty in the Department of Pali participates in the national and international level seminars and conferences.
