Establishment

The department of Urdu was established in 1999. Urdu is Camp Language (Lashkari Zaban). Urdu is mixture of words taken from different Language such as Arabic, Persian, Turkish and Hindi. Urdu is an Indo-Aryan Language. It aims to promote the Urdu language as the language of knowledge, and Urdu literature as the literature of values especially human values that can withstand the buffeting forces of time. Teaching faculty members are recruited according to UGC norms of qualification and the State Government rules. The department presently has two full time faculty members, btoh are PhD holders and is actively participated in research. Dr. Shaikh M.S. is recognized PhD guide. Both faculty have publications in peer reviewed journals and conference proceedings. Both have participated in National & International conferences.

Apart from traditional direct method of teaching, faculties are using ICT enabled methods using the Power Point presentations on LCD projector and audio-video educative material available as Pendrives (like-Mirza Ghalib,Umrao Jaan Ada) and material accessed from the internet. Students are also encouraged to develop presentations using these resources.

Objectives of the Department

• To introduce ancient culture through Urdu literature
• To improve Communication Skill
• To make student self-reliant by teaching them skills like Inpage Urdu Software , Urdu Journalism, Mass Communication,  Translation.
• To make Overall development of studentsTo give information about different competitive examination and make them enthusiastic to attend the examination.
• To provide advanced knowledge of the Urdu language and literature to the students of rural area.
• To provide knowledge of Urdu Cultural Heritage.
• To give information about different Competitive Examinations and make them enthusiastic and aware to attend the Examination.
• To enable the students to face the challenges of future.

Aim & Objectives

The Department aims at promoting awareness among students about the importance of learning the language and literature written in Urdu.

Urdu is taught at two levels at the under graduate program me.

It is taught as a second language at the first and second year of the under graduate program me in the faculties of Arts, Science and Commerce.

• B.A. Optional Regular Course for Three Years
• B.A., B.Sc. and B.Com. Second Language Regular Course for Two years
• It is taught as an optional subject at the three years degree program me in the faculty of Arts (B.A)
• At the second language level, the department aims at enabling the students.
• To acquire the language skills by knowing the principal of writing rules and traditions.
• To know the verity of utility of Urdu language.
• To study the translation and the language of the translation.
• To study the specialties of the utility of the language according to its object & the structure.

All the faculty members of the department of Urdu are research oriented. They are constantly publishing research papers in the national and international journals. The faculty actively participates in the national and international level seminars and conferences.
